Consistancy Of Film Posters Part 1

Safe Haven

The first film I will be analysing in this task is "Safe Haven", which is a romance film based on the novel of the same name.

The film follows a young woman with a mysterious past who lands in Southport, North Carolina, where her bond with a widower forces her to finally confront the dark secret that haunts her.

During this post I will be analyse the consistence's between the film poster and the film trailer.

The Consistency

Both the trailer and the poster have many consistencies or similarities such as the use of location and text font however unlike most promotional methods the film's uses poster and trailer are not completely consistent as the trailer gives off a much darker feeling than the poster because the poster focuses on the romance but the trailer contains some parts that show mystery and darkness.
The use of text in the trailer and poster contain the same message by using the same tagline and ideas. The tagline "You know it when you find it" and "Its not what you're running from...", " its where you're running to" show a similar message however the poster uses light blue writing to show happiness where the trailer uses black writing on a blue background to show something dark is around.

Portrayal of the genre

The poster and trailer both have a heavy use of colours such as light blue and green (as seen on the characters) which are complementary colours, in other words these colours, like the characters are compatible. This use of colour suggest that it is a romance film.
When considering the character interaction on both the trailer and poster it again becomes clear the film is a romance as the main characters are constantly in the same shot or shown directly after each other.

Portrayal of the plot

For this film I feel the portrayal of the plot through the poster is minimal as although it does show the romance side of the story and with the location and text it explains the basic plot, it doesn't show or even hint the darker and more mysterious side of the story.
However the trailer not only consists of the same techniques that help to represent the romantic side of the story it also shows the darker side through the use of low key lighting and rapid, fast pace cuts.
