Ideas for Film Posters
Considering the genre, style and content of our film, Old Habits Die Hard, I believe our poster should be clear and direct. I believe this as the target audience for our film is young adults thus getting across the information like release date should be most important.
However considering the point of a poster is to attract consumers the imagery will be the key to get people to look at the poster. Some of the ideas I have so far had for the poster are:
Ideas
Imagery relating to the title such; as toby resting against a gravestone with drug related objects or Toby destroying drug related objects (In fire, smashing or breaking).Imagery related to Toby's struggles; Toby chained or tied to object to symbolise his unwanted addiction and his inability to break free from it or Large clear (almost) mug shots to clearly depicted the criminal side of the story (Posters can be a sequence of characters from the film).
Further Ideas
Alongside the imagery is the text which I feel would be most effective in clear sight (Maybe Bold and Large text). The release date, title and a catchphrase are likely to be placed on the poster as means of telling audience when they can see it, where they can see it (considering it a social realism it will not likely be shown in large cinema chains but festivals and art theatres) and a sum up of the story.Although some billing will be present it is likely to be small and on the bottom of the page, I believe this as a social realism will not have big names that could attract audiences.
Release Date
I imagine that our release date will be within the summer as the film will be targeting those who may have free time during the summer months as well as due to the nature of our film genre. Many social realisms created by a independent company have their screenings at film festivals, of which many take place during summer months.Catchphrase
We have yet to come up with a solid catchphrase for the poster but we feel that the posters catchphrase should be taken from the trailer as it will connect both together and as both are aimed to promote the film it should capture a key part of the film. Some of the examples we have came up with are "I was never one to keep my promises..." (taken from one of the main turning points of the trailer) and "I'm back in the game".
